The two jawans - Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh and Lance Naik
Hemraj Singh - both belonging to 13 Rajputana Rifles were entrapped by
Pakistani soldiers at Mendhar on January 8, 2013 and both of them were decapitated
by the Pak army. The Pakistani soldiers took away the head of one of the
martyrs.
There can be foolishness but no shame in the above incident.
It is part and parcel of the game. But what has happened after the game is what
makes one hang his head in shame.
As per reports, 1000 army jawans of
Rajputana Rifles are going on fast for the last two days demanding an
appropriate revenge against Pakistan army in retaliation for the brutal killing

When an army unit goes on hunger
strike instead of playing game, then it needs to be dismantled. (If the reports
are true).
To play games, no army needs anyone’s
permission. Excuse of permission for playing games is epitome of cowardliness. As
far as playing games are concerned, Bharat has legendry legacy of going beyond
the call of duty by its citizens. Bhagat Singh played the game for Lala Lajpat
Rai and so did Udham Singh for Jaliyanwala Bagh
Even if the reports of hunger strike
are not true, I will like to remind the 13th Rajputana Rifle about some of the glorious
tradition of game playing by Rajputana Rifles.
In 1947, at South of Tithwal, Piru
Singh was Havildar Major and was detailed to attack and capture an enemy
occupied hill feature. The enemy had well dug in positions and as the attack
advanced, it was met with heavy MMG fire from both flanks. "Seeing more
than half of the section killed or wounded,
Piru Singh did not go on hunger strike. With battle cries he encouraged the
remaining men and rushed forward to enemy MMG position. Grenade splinters wounded
him at several places, but he continued to advance and jumped on the MMG crew,
bayoneting them to death. By then he was the sole survivor of the section, the
rest of them either dead or wounded. Another grenade thrown at him wounded him
in the face. With blood dripping from his face wounds in his eyes, he crawled
out of the trench, hurling grenades at the next enemy position. Again, Instead of going on a hunger strike, with
a loud battle cry, he jumped on the occupants of the next trench bayoneting two
to death. As he charged on the 3rd enemy bunker, he was hit in the head by a
bullet and was seen dropping on the edge of the enemy trench. There was an
explosion in the trench, which showed that his grenade had done its work."

Rajputana Rifles should leave the valorous task of hunger strike to the family
of martyrs. They are capable of taking up this enormous task without the
support of 13 Rajputana Rifles. May be it is blessing in disguise that Indian
army has not seen a Chief of Army from Rajputana Rifles.
